Designathons are innovation workshops that especially designed for children so they can explore global sustainability issues, design ideas and build prototypes using new technologies. Developed by Amsterdam-based Designathon Works, the program culminates in the Global Children's Designathon (GCD), a global event where children from around the world innovate for the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Medina Works organizes the Tunis and Montreal editions of the GCD.
Houda Ghozzi @ Tunisia
Open Startup Tunisia is a student startup bootcamp and competition developed in partnership with Columbia University and with joint support from Fondation BIAT, the American Embassy in Tunis and Africa’s leading private equity firm AfricInvest. Led by a team of passionate university professors, the competition is also supported by a wide network of industry mentors as well as local and international trainers. Multidisciplinary teams from Tunisian engineering and business schools compete yearly with startup ideas that “leverage technology to solve the world’s global challenges”. Every year one winning team qualifies to pitch their startup idea in New York at Columbia University’s startup festival.

Cogite Coworking Space
Rym Baouendi @ Mediterranean and Middle East region
CITY//CHANGEMAKER is a platform for urban innovation in emerging cities with a focus on the Mediterranean and Middle East region. It offers a regional workshop tours around various urban sustainability challenges (energy, water, transport, education, gender…). In each city, 25 to 30 city changemakers are invited on a deep-dive to reflect on a pre-defined major urban challenge and to co-create innovative ideas in response. Participants are guided through a structured innovation process inspired by the Creation Flow developed by the THNK: School for Creative Leadership.
This initiative was launched in collaboration with Ronald Lenz from Cities Next NL.
